Nia (Howard)

Nia was a Howard University senior who became Logan Weston’s chemistry-lab partner during his freshman year. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she returned to Howard for graduate study. She offered practical support during several low-blood-sugar episodes and remained part of Logan’s campus support network when he returned after his car accident.

Nia met seventeen-year-old Logan in a chemistry lab during fall 2025. She initially reacted with surprise to his age, then jokingly offered to adopt him as a mentee after seeing his academic ability.

Nia noticed when Logan nearly collapsed after skipping food, asked when he had last eaten, and gave him a granola bar. She later invited him for coffee and continued checking on him without turning the friendship into a clinical role.

At the end of his first week, she texted to check on him and suggested they both take a day off. She came to his dorm with sandwiches and a Studio Ghibli film; when he tried to return to his reading packet, she reminded him that he could rest. The next day, she took him to a café near campus, where she told him she was checking on him because she wanted to, and they made plans for pancakes the following weekend.

During another low in an organic-chemistry review, Nia directed Logan to sit and drink juice. Her response was concise, practical, and dryly humorous. She also carried juice and snacks during later episodes.

When Logan returned to Howard in spring–summer 2027 after his December 2025 car accident, Nia was a graduate student at the university. She sat beside him in a lecture hall and placed a protein bar on his desk without comment. When Logan thanked her for not repeatedly checking whether he would come, she said she had known he would and threatened to wheel him in herself if he did not.

Nia was distinct from the Black teenager Logan met on his spring-2024 cruise and from Nia Coleman. The cruise Nia shared Logan’s first kiss; Howard Nia was his older lab partner and friend.
